A fire door is a door that is specifically designed to reduce the spread of fire and smoke throughout building.  

Fire doors have a fire- resistance rating that is typically 30 or 60 minutes. This 30 or 60 minute fire resistance is a critical part of a buildings ‘passive fire protection’. Fire doors will serve to compartmentalize a fire within a certain area and critically preserve escape routes.

Fire doors have a very specific make up and will typically be fitted with self closing devices to ensure they are closed at all times in order to serve their purpose.

The doors will usually be fitted with intumescent strips and in some cases smoke seals to prevent the passage of smoke.

All fire doors must be tested and installed to the relevant British standard BS 476 pt: 22

Fire doors have evolved from the days when they were simply practical and had no style or character. There is now a wide range of designs and styles available that will suit your premises and still comply with BS 476 pt: 22.
