Since the introduction of the RRFSO 2005 (Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005) it has become a legal requirement for the ‘responsible person’ in relation to a workplace to carry out the necessary fire risk assessment. In a workplace that has 5 or more employees the findings of the fire risk assessment must be recorded and the information reviewed and updated regularly, taking into account any changes that are made within the premises.
So who is the ‘Responsible Person’?
In a workplace the ‘Responsible Person’ generally is the person in control of the premises (as occupier or otherwise) usually the employer, the operations manager or a delegated member of staff with the task of meeting the responsibilities under the fire safety order (RRFSO 2005).
The ‘responsible person’ can carry out and record the fire risk assessment using the available guidance documents without help from an external company.
However, some businesses do not have the available time or resources to carry out a comprehensive assessment. In particular those premises that have large and complex working practices are just more comfortable instructing a fire safety professional to help them carry out the assessment.
Adams Fire Safety can provide trained and experienced risk assessors to carry out a comprehensive fire risk assessment of your premises. Our assessors will use their expertise to provide you with a written risk assessment that can be reviewed and updated as changes within the workplace take place. All significant findings and recommendations will be recorded and we will also provide you with the necessary ‘Emergency Action Plan’ and ‘Fire Management Plan’ specifically tailored to your premises.
Following the completion of the assessment we will offer our guidance on making sure the correct maintenance of your risk assessment and fire safety measures within the premises are followed and offer our continuing support.
