If a fire breaks out within a premises, the primary concern is always to safely evacuate all persons from the premises to an area of safety.
In the event of a fire a power outage is likely to occur creating a lighting blackout and greatly diminished light along the escape route from the building. This situation is dangerous even to persons who are familiar with the buildings layout and even more dangerous to people who are not. It is essential in such a situation that a clearly lit escape route can be identified and followed to a place of safety. This is where an emergency lighting system is vital.
So what are ‘Emergency lights’?
Put simply, an emergency lighting system is one or more circuits of lights that operate on a battery back up in the event of an electrical mains failure. The lights automatically switch to their battery power supply when they lose mains power and illuminate the escape route and exits within the premises.
