Portable fire extinguishers are not only a legal requirement within your premises but when used correctly can be a very useful safety tool when it comes to tackling small fires.

When discovered early enough a small fire may be effectively extinguished before spreading by the use of the correct portable fire extinguisher and a person who has received adequate training on how to use the extinguisher.
A person should only attempt to use a portable fire extinguisher if they have received adequate training on the use of the extinguisher. They should always raise the alarm first and should never jeopardise their own escape from the building in a fire situation.

It is a requirement that all premises that come under the ‘Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order 2005’ have adequate portable fire extinguishers relevant to the risks that the premises may present.

There are many different types of portable fire extinguishers that have different uses for the different classes of fire.  Careful consideration of the risks within the premises is needed when it comes to choosing the quantity and type of the extinguishers needed.

It is also important that the extinguishers are sited correctly throughout the premises in order to provide protection for persons and not to increase the risk to anyone who chooses to use a fire extinguisher to fight a fire.

Once you have the adequate extinguishers in place or if you already have them, it is essential that regular maintenance of the extinguishers is carried out to the British standard BS 5306: Part 3 by a competent person. They are to be serviced at least annually to ensure they always function in an emergency. T

At Adams Fire Safety we have a complete range of portable fire extinguishers and accessories to cover every possible requirement of your premises. Our extensive range of fire extinguishers are approved to BS EN3 and carry the British standard kite mark – your guarantee of quality.
